It is said that a Juniper tree growing near their path opened up its branches and enveloped the Holy Family, concealing them from the watchful gaze of the murderers. In gratitude, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph blessed the tree for its protection.

The juniper tree is closely associated with pain and sorrow: not only are its needles sharp and irritating, but it witnessed the Holy Family fleeing the bloodthirsty king as he slew the innocent. However, it also possesses healing attributes: its beautiful blue berries are well known for their medicinal and culinary qualities, while its branches have been used in religious ceremonies since ancient times. It is a tree that can physically and spiritually enrich the lives of all it touches and, as such, has long been the chosen Christmas tree for households across the globe.
